Therapeutic Approach

In my approach I draw inspiration from multiple theories and perspectives - psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral techniques, brief therapy models, and relational theories. While my therapeutic approach could best be described as eclectic, I also focus on the working relationship between client and therapist.

I approach each new client as someone who is a unique individual. I help them recognize factors that impact their current life situation. I may serve as an educator, helping them learn what are realistic expectations for someone at their developmental level or learn characteristics of certain disorders and their course of treatment. I may also serve as a confidant. I listen carefully to their story, feelings and personal struggles. Finally, I may often serve as a guide, helping a client stay on their path to better relationships, work and life experiences. I find it very rewarding to participate in a process that allows my clients to gain the courage to look at themselves and make positive changes in their lives.

My Qualifications

I am a licensed psychologist in the state of California. I immigrated from Iran to the United States at the age of fourteen. I obtained a B.A. in Psychology from San Diego State University. I then moved to Boston where I earned a doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology.

My clinical experience includes working with women and their children in an inpatient/outpatient substance abuse center.  I also have four years of intensive experience as a college counselor at the University of MA in Dartmouth, Rhode Island College and Whittier College. My work has focused on a broad area of clinical issues including relationships, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma-related difficulties, and cultural issues.

Prior to opening my own private practice, I worked at Family Services of Long Beach. At Family Services, I provided individual psychotherapy for children (age 5+) to older adults both in the clinic and out in the community at local elementary and high schools in the Long Beach area.
